Collectors SP Conference Day 3: Cops Brace Up for a Discussion on State Security Measures.

Security of the public is a matter of chief concern for Rajasthan government, considering that the state shares its border with Pakistan. Being largest state in India, it’s difficult to implement laws and protect a large population against crime. To strengthen internal security measures, CM Vasundhara Raje, on the third day of Collectors SP Conference, encouraged the police force to espouse a sensitive approach towards the public. She directed the officers to keep a cautious eye on crimes and implement quick action to invoke terror in the minds of the offenders. Reactive and Pro-active move is the key to the heart of citizens.

Police is the primary source of help for the victims of a crime. Therefore, the cops need to be sensitive towards the public so as to win their trust. Progress, good governance and effective service delivery is possible only if the citizens feel safe and happy in a society. Taking a step in this direction, Raje laid down some key points for the officers.

  • Developing a professional and active police force, backed by novel ideas and IT tools is the need of the hour. The police needs to come up with strategies to combat stressful occurrences and social hostilities. This can be achieved by resolving disputes on time.
  • It’s important for cops to build up an efficient communication channel with the public. Religious gatherings, fairs, sports meet, workshops, recruitment drives and rallies provide excellent platform to communicate ideas directly to the public.
  • Crimes involving women, kids and particular castes/communities are sensitive in nature. Even the slightest mistakes could inflate riots. Such issues should be resolved with utmost care.
  • Social networks could be used for keeping tabs on cyber crime. Any incidence involving violence should be settled immediately. The police can also use it for exercising control on rumours. The CM specifically asked the officers to be active on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
  • Since it’s hard for the police to monitor local proceedings 24×7, they can associate with CLG members, women groups, paramilitary troops, highway police and patrol units to monitor and control road accidents, protests and burglary.

CM’s opening address was followed by fresh round of presentations delivered by eminent police officers. They covered strategies on crime control and effective complaint dissolution. Amidst this discussion CM lauded constructive measures like grading of police stations, safety app and social forums run by retired police officers of Badmer and Tonk. Thus, the third day of Collectors SP Conference came to an end with Raje assuming ‘Zero Tolerance’ mode against illegal ammunition, crimes and abuse.
