Recently, a trail of crime and rape incidents came into the picture projecting Jaipur city as a n emerging crime hub. Due to this, the city cops have tighten their schedule in patrolling across the city. This is very unlikely of the pervious times when the city police were most concerned about their leisure and least about city safety. Resultantly, it has been reported that, crime and kidnapping cases has diminished by 12 percent from the year 2016. The figures have been released by the police department only and are quite recent.

However, with this report, the department has also projected increase in fake cases of rape which is serving as a burden and challenge to them. The recent “Jaipur Gang Rape” case is one such example where the girl and her boyfriend conspired against a boy in lure of some money.

On this matter, a designated police officer mentioned that, “We registered 330 rape cases in 2016, which was 18 per cent higher than the figures recorded in the previous year. However, of the 276 cases solved, 43 per cent were false. In several of these cases, a complaint was filed to extort money or implicate an individual”.

In the recent talks, city’s police commissioner Sanjay Agarwal and Prafull Kumar mentioned about the preventive detention of almost 29,232 culprits to keep a check on incidents of looting.

Prafull kumar also said that, “In 2015, 312 incidents of loot were recorded, which came down to 130 in 2016, showing a sharp decline of 5 per cent. This was possible as we were able to detain people under Goondas Act, and under section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC)”.

Comparisons said that, the number people detained rose from 21,733 to 29,232.

Handling over the credit to the heavy surveillance, checking and detentions, Mr. Agarwal mentioned that the crime rate saw a happy decline from the last year.
