More trees would mean more green cover, which would result in more rain and more water.

The praiseworthy step was taken by the state government to increase the green cover in Jaipur. The JAIPUR DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (JDA) in its initiative will distribute plants to residents. These plants will be distributed on subsided rates this monsoon season.

The distribution work will begin on 15 July by the civic body. All the plants will be made available in JDA’s five nurseries. As per the official report, this year nearly 21,500 plants will be distributed in JDA nurseries.

The plants can be purchased by the people up to the height of 10 feet after paying Rs 50. Besides this five plants will be provided per resident. However, all the residents are required to carry ID proof with them.  The distribution will be conducted on the basis of first come first serve basis.

The initiate will result in an increase in the shrinking green cover, which has become a serious threat in recent past.

It is also proposed to enhance per capita of open space to 8.80 sq meter according to the master plan 2025 for a population projected to grow at 6.50 million by 2025.

As per the last report of JDA, the city has only 11.3% of its area under green cover. This falls short of the mandatory 20% as per the Master Plan 2025.

According to the JDA and forest officials increasing the green cover in the city is a phenomenal task and it requires sustained efforts and adequate resources, mainly land.

Thus sometimes big changes happen with a single and simple idea. Now the time has come to do a bit and make a crucial difference. Because tomorrow may be too late.
