About Palanhar Yojana

Palanhar yojna is an important ‘childcare scheme’ introduced by the government of Rajasthan for the poor and destitute children. Under this scheme, care and nurturing of the destitute children and girls in the age group from 0 to 18 years of the state is arranged.  Financial assistance is also provided by the government to the caretakers of the children on a monthly basis to ensure their all-round (economic, social and educational) development.

Initially, this initiative was launched for schedule caste orphans. After undergoing several amendments, the benefits of Palanhar Yojana have been extended to:

  • Orphaned children
  • Child of divorced/abandoned women
  • Children of disabled parents
  • Children of AIDS sufferers
  • Remarriage of widow
  • Children of life imprisoned parents

Eligibility Criteria for Child Applicants

  • The child should be under 18 years of age
  • Child’s siblings should not be earning
  • The annual income of the caretakers should not exceed Rs 1.20 lakhs
  • The child should be residing in the Rajasthan state for 3 years at the time of application.

Benefits under the scheme

All the children falling under the Palanhar Yojana must be sent to the Anganwadi centers (if they’re under 2) and to schools (if they’re under 6). Also, the government provides worth Rs 500 to the children children up to the age of 5. After getting enrolled in a government school, government grants are provided at the rate of Rs 100 until the recipient turns 18 years old. Apart from this, the government also provides annual grants at the rate of Rs 2000 per year for clothing, shoes, sweater and other necessary work.

Application process

The application process under the scheme has now been simplified. Now the applications can be made through the online process.  For this people have to contact the nearest e-friend kiosk. Alternatively, they can approach the Social Justice and Empowerment Department of their respective districts. The amount received therein will be transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank accounts.

Judging by the benefits, the Palanhar Yojana seems to be a beneficial policy for kids. The government of Rajasthan implements many child-centric schemes like Palanhar to ensure that kids can stand on their feet. This relentless effort of the government helps kids deal with the calamities in life, thus making it a meaningful initiative.
